TABLE #1
Trouble with the Neighbors
Complexity Game Master Game Type Players
Moderate Mark Kochte Full Thrust 3 Playtest 4-10
Description
It's been over a year since the Great Skirmish with the batlh-less Federation who subsequently imposed their will of "peace" on this corner of the galaxy. They have no concept of battle, of batlh, or even of what it means to be a true Warrior. And now here you sit, in some isolated corner of the Empire, watching over the Lyran-Kzinti-Klingon border. Since the Great Skirmish things here have been pretty quiet. Boringly quiet.

As you ponder these thoughts for the umpteenth time, you receive a report that the Lyrans and the Kzinti are having an "issue". The sector Governor is sending your force out to put down this little incident. A couple of battlecruisers, a battleship, and a frigate. A little heavy-handed to quell a simple border disagreement, but the crews have been restless for too long now. They need the exercise.

Upon your arrival you find a single Kzinti Space Control Ship squaring off against a fleet of Lyrans when a force of Hydrans arrive. Great! A party! Finally, endless months of skill-numbing boredom, to be relieved by a little tangle in order to "keep the peace". Oh, if the Feddies could see how you handle this good and proper! You issue an order for the fleets to stand down, knowing full well you will be ignored. And you are. You order your own ships to battle.

But wait! Something just appeared on the scanners. Another fleet just popped in and now who in the hell invited the Peacekeepers, anyway??

TABLE #4
Operation Galahad: The Defense of Grunwald/Nottingham
Complexity Game Master Game Type Players
High Tom Barclay DS3 Playtest 4-8
Description
2137 The Eurasian Solar Union declares war against the New Anglian Confederation due to "the hostile actions and intents of the imperialists". Five years of intense warfare known as the First Solar War follows throughout the inner colonies and the Outworlds. The important NAC Outworld base on Lancelot is taken by an ESU Naval Infantry Assault Division.

2149 Buoyed by the success of Dryland, the NAC and NSL militaries launch Operation G alahad, a joint strike to regain Lancelot. The ESU defenders, led by General Lech Pawodowski with the 57th Combined Division, beat back attack after attack as NAC and NSL troops are poured into the battle. After seventy days of spirited resistance Pawodowski surrenders with full military honours leading the remaining one hundred and forty survivors of his Division into captivity.

Scenario:

Brigadier Syndey H. Charrington and Brigadegeneral Wilhelm Biltz were charged with routing out elements of the 57th Combined Division from around the town of Nottingham, renamed Grunwald by the ESU after the invasion in 2137. Nottingham was of particular interest because it contained both a strategic railhead for the maglev train system and was home to the power plant which powered much of Nottinghamshire. Using their advanced technology and relatively high mobility, the NAC/NSL force attempted to subject the local 57th Division forces to a defeat in detail. General Brygady Wladyslaw Jagiello, the canny and determined commander of the local elements of the 57th, elected to be "rather blastedly uncooperative and difficult" (according to Brigadier Charrington as quoted in his memoirs "Galahad's Knights" of 2159).

Can you lead the high-tech NSL/NAC armoured strike force to victory over the mixed force of Eurasians? Or will you fight tooth and nail to keep the Anglians off the territory your Naval Infantry drove them from so ignominiously twelve years before?

PSA: This scenario does not, I repeat NOT, involve Kravak. It is also not "A Grey Day on Lancelot". Nor are there any weapons of mass destruction nor runaway droids involved. And no sheep were harmed in the production of this scenario. This is just straight up DS2/DS3. [Webmaster note: I'm not sure I believe you, Tom. (8-)]
