| Description |

The Weight of Command is a tactical command simulator wherein the
players are divided into 3 groups - two tactical units and a HQ
command unit. Each tactical unit has its own board, its own
intelligence and objectives, its own rules of engagement, and its own
referee. The command staff has no board, only maps and reports from
the two tactical units, but has at its discretionary control the
deployment of off-board support assets and reinforcements and it
has to deal with managing the two tactical units while coping with
changeable mission orders, intelligence discoveries or failures,
outside command, and while ensuring the maintenance of the Rules of
Engagement by subordinate units. There will be three referees
(one for each separate player group) and their activities will be
coordinated and will harness digital cameras and a wireless network
to assist in coordination. This is a cooperative event for the players
as all opposition will be GM-run.
The purpose of the game is to allow players to experience either the
challenges of operating under outside command while pursuing sometimes
changeable mission objectives and maintaining Rules of Engagement OR
the experience of trying to lead troops in the field where you cannot
be on hand to witness what they see directly and where you have to
deal with outside pressures and make decisions in the lack of complete
knowledge
The Tactical Units will be carrying out to separate but related
missions in two different locations (the two boards) and will be under
the direction of th Command HQ. The overall mission is a UN operation
with the command staff being UNSC. The Tactical Units are likely to be
drawn from member nations, further adding to the experience, as each
will probably also recieve particular directives and limitations
(effectively a second ROE) from their own National Command
Authorities.
