Lancaster

During the Revolutionary War, Lancaster was the largest inland city in the Colonies. It was capital of the nation for 1 day, Sept. 27, 1777, when Congress stopped in Lancaster as it fled Philadelpha after the Battle of Brandywine. Lancaster was the state capital from 1799-1812.

The city is in the heart of Lancaster County, known for its Amish and Mennonite population, its picturesque and productive farms and its heaping platters of Pennsylvania Dutch food. The Visitor Information Center, on US 30 at the Greenfield Road exit, presents a brief orientation to the area through exhibits, a multi-image program, brochures and maps.

Directions and Maps

Lancaster is easily accessible by the PA turnpike and Routes 30, 283, 462, and 83. Complimentary enclosed parking is provided for overnight guests in the adjacent parking deck. U.S. Air which services Lancaster Airport is located 15 minutes from the hotel and Harrisburg International Airport is within a 45 minute drive. In addition, AMTRAK offers direct connections from Philadelphia and Harrisburg to its Lancaster station, located seven blocks from the hotel.

N.B. We've had reports that these directions are inaccurate in some places because of construction in the Lancaster area. They're the same directions that are available on the Hotel Brunswick website ( as of March, 2005) and so I can only offer an alternate route along the route I travel, which is Harrisburg & Points West. I take 72 from Route 283, which turns into N. Prince St, heading South.

We strongly recommend using MapQuest or some other mapping website to double check your route inside Lancaster -- the downtown can be rather tricky.
