History

The United Nations was born during the turmoil of World War II, in the hope of developing a body capable of mediating international dispute without resorting to armed violence.

How the UN Works Today

UN Peacekeepr Corps

The UN Peacekeepers are not military forces -- they have more the outlook of police and arbitrators. They do not conduct military operations, and are not equipped for such operations. They are only brought in upon invitation, and upon areas secured by the UNSC. As such, they are usually the first form of civil authority that war torn areas see.

UN Space Command

This is the military arm of the UN Secretariat, responsible to the Secretariat and the Security Council. There are three major combat branches of the UNSC -- UNSC Fleet, UNSC Marines, and the UN Planetary Guard. Personnel for the UNSC must take an oath to suspend their allegience to their home countries, and follow the orders of the UN. UNSC officers must be graduates of the UNSC Academy, and, as such, are UN citizens. The days of the 'Chameleons' (officers borrowed from other star navies) are pretty well over. There are five departments the UNSC runs under. Operations, Ships, Logistics, Intelligence, Personnel. The UNSC General Staff consists of the heads of these departments, the military heads of the three combat branches, and the Chief of UNSC Operations.
