my cup drippeth a little

Geez, has it really been nearly two weeks since I posted last? I'm going to have to get better at posting, lest I forget everything that's been happening.

Short story: still working on permanent full-time job leads, not much new there, but I've moved on to a new contract that is mostly design work, and much more rewarding.

state of my career address

It's been a while since I updated everyone on exactly what is going on with my job search. There has been progress and events, but at the same time it really doesn't feel like much is happening, hence my silence. As I did miss some fairly significant events, however, I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed.

a bell curve perspective

Last night I went to an intimate St. Patrick's Day warm-up get-together. That I attended a thinly-veiled drinking party is in and of itself an extreme rarity, but the company I was keeping was pretty unique as well. Out of the seven people in the room, at least one is a doctoral candidate, and two others tenured university professors. They are the nicest people you'll ever meet, but boy, hanging around in a crowd like that can sure take the shine off your ego in short order.

the cure is worse

Mid last week I was hit - for the second time this season - by a rather nasty bug of some sort that saw me book off work early one day and sleep 4 hours of the afternoon away. I got a bit better, had an interview (that's another story), but developed a persistent chest cough that was pretty annoying. Last night I had had enough of the damned cough, and decided to head to our local 24-hour supermarket and get an expectorant.

Worst. Decision. Ever!

and all of a sudden...

This week has already been interesting, and it's barely even started yet. First, I've been swapping e-mails and phone calls with the presidents of two companies, and have two interviews for this week. And just tonight I talked with one of my ex-coworkers at the company in receivership, and it sounds like things are actually in much better shape than I'd been lead to believe. Surprises all around!
