from the mouth of babes...

My in-laws are visiting for a couple days. In preparation for their arrival, all the typical chores needed to be done: make the spare bed, clean the bathroom, vacuum the floor. On Sunday morning I took the latter task, and was vacuuming the entire upstairs.

It was quite sunny that day, and thus our house was comfortably warm. Lugging a vacuum around that's blowing out hot air made it warmer, and thus I opted to perform this particular chore without a shirt on. Naked vacuuming may be all the rage elsewhere, but with my body, and the number of windows putting me on display to the rest of the townhouses on my crescent, modesty prevailed.

At one point I went downstairs to get a drink. My wife and daughter were down there, my daughter having gone from wearing undewear and a shirt down to nothing but underwear. She stood in front of me, looked at my bare, hairy torso, looked at her near-bare body, and exclaimed, "Daddy and I are BOTH getting naked!"

Oh, if I could only implant a video recorder into my optic nerve...

I knew it would come back

I typically get to work early. With a young daughter and a pregnant wife, I like getting home as soon as possible from work so I can spend time with them. Thus, I get in early, and leave at quitting time, or even a little beforehand if it's been a particularily gruelling day.

Of course, it had to bite me on the ass yesterday.

Cat In The Hat

Theodor Seuss Geisel is glad he's dead, because he didn't have to see what happened when The Cat In The Hat transitioned from childhood favourite book into a Hollywood comedy.

lesson of nature

This weekend was busy. My daughter has many contemporaries that all have birthdays around the same time, and this past weekend we had two parties on consecutive days. Thankfully, they were small parties. Too many 3-year-olds and things get wiggy.

That wasn't the memorable part of the weekend, however. It seemed that Mother Nature was bound and determined to give us a lesson about how nature really works. Discovery Channel has nothing over my back yard.

Friends is done...

Friends is no more. This past week was the last Thursday that my wife and I will sit down to watch out lineup of Friends, CSI, and ER. I guess we'll have to find another acronym to watch.

To be clear, however, we didn't actually watch the final episode of Friends on Thursday. Our daughter's bedtime typically conflicts with at least one of the shows we watch, so we just tape it. (Actually, we tape the whole evening, just in case we have to abandon the TV to get her to sleep.) So Saturday we finally got to see the end of Friends. Almost.

minivans

It's certainly not unusual when cars become the main topic of discussion around my workplace. Truth be told, that was part of the reason I didn't like my previous job - nobody there talked cars, ever. In any case, the topic somehow got around to minivans, and one of my co-workers kept insisting that "minivans are great!" I've heard this from a few people, and it alway revolves around the same thing: minivans hold a lot of stuff.

you're probably wondering...

Bad blogger! Bad, bad blogger! I should know better than to have a life, but sadly it actually happened this weekend, and thus... again, no feature article.

Believe me, it's not for not having things to say - I want to talk about Tim Horton's, addiction, minivans, carpooling, fun projects at work, my recent trip... however this weekend my daughter's 3rd birthday party and my mother-in-law coming to town got in the way.

I can't even post the picture of me in my Playbeav shirt, because I'm a doofus and somehow screwed up e-mailing the pictures to myself. I don't get it.

Tomorrow: Playbeav picture. Later this week: small snippets about what I'm thinking as I have time to write them. I may have to abandon my big, long, weekly article in favour of smaller, less edited blurbs instead.
