as usual, some disappointment

Sigh. You'd think I'd learn about getting excited about "possibilities", wouldn't you? I guess not.

I won't be getting the Energy Auditor position. I got an e-mail today to that effect. The reasons? Partly my total inexperience in the industry, but apparently my assessment came back indicating that I would simply not enjoy the position or last very long. More detailed analysis will happen (the assessment was included with the e-mail), but I'm a people person, whereas the job entails lots of very detailed, repetitive work. Argh.

Merry Christmas, to those reading blogs today

Merry Christmas, all. It's been a great day, filled with way too much to eat (as normal) and some quality time with family. I hope you are having a wonderful day as well, whatever you are doing.

One tradition my family has is to have Christmas crackers during our holiday meal. (By "crackers" I do not mean holiday-shaped snacks, I mean the colourful tubes that go POP! when you pull them apart.) They always have a paper hat, a surprise, and a joke. The joke I got today was just so bad I have to share it:

Q: What do you call Santa's helpers?

a startlingly good outcome

Depending on how closely you follow my life (which could be closer if I bothered to blog a bit more, perhaps), you may recall that I had an interview today for an Energy Auditor position. A local, permanent, full-time, vacation-giving, benefits-bestowing, career-transitioning, idealogically supportive position. While the outcome wasn't the best possible (that would be leaving with an offer in-hand, in my book) it was extremely positive. I am stoked.

exciting, funny, sneaky

Just a quick update today, but a good one: there's excitement, mirth, and deviousness afoot.

jobhunting at Christmas - and I'm thrilled!

Just before you start having heart palpitations, I am NOT out of work. I am still working on contract, and will be doing so into 2007. I am, however, looking for new work during this time. I've made what feel like tremendous strides in terms of preparing to re-align my career (all thanks to my absolute favourite career counselor), and as of yesterday have applied to two non-engineering positions, with a 3rd to follow shortly.

cards, floppies, chat, and more!

Step right up folks, I got something for everyone tonight:

1) Business cards - I got some, and ordered more for free.
2) Thought 5.25" floppies were dead? No, just hiding.
3) I have 441 English pages coming to me - no, not from parliament.
4) Is your website a good website, or a bad website?
5) Chat!
