I finally forgot the hour

Usually our Sunday mornings are a bit rushed. We wake up, and realize that we have relatively little time to get everyone showered, dressed, fed, and out the door in time for church. Today was no exception, even with setting the alarm. So we rushed around, did what we had to do, got out the door 15 minutes later that we should have, and hopped in the car for church. We got there, noticed that that parking lot was much emptier than usual, and suddenly realized that we hadn't set our clocks back an hour yet. We were 45 minutes early for church.

That is the first time I've ever forgotten to reset my clocks. Hopefully, it will be the last. I could have used that hour of sleep.

In other news, the new job is going well, and I'm almost stupid giddy over how things are going to be set up.

full stop, full reverse

Those of you following along at home will remember the recent and stimulating discussion that has occurred here about my claim against a local barbeque manufacturer, and my concurrent desire to become their supplier. I finally had the chance on Friday to sit down with both of my business mentors (partners, associates, bosses, whatever the heck you want to call them), Bob and John, and discuss this situation with them. Their opinions were surprising, and quite emphatic. Let me share them with you.

honest, I'm not dead

Oops... how did I not post for nearly two weeks? My bad. It's not that there isn't stuff to post about... there have been things that have crossed my mind to write about, but I simply haven't buckled down to do it yet.

For now, a quick update then. Work is going well, and my first customer meeting not only went well, but was blessed with so much good fortune that I'm still waiting to shit horseshoes any minute now. Things are going to start picking up from here on out, and I'm quite excited. Likely I'll have a follow-up visit this week, which will hopefully spawn yet more. I think my first commission cheque is a ways off, but it's a good start.

I'll go write everything up properly and get it up soon-ish. I hope. :)

a lovely twilight

I think I came up with a new drink. I wasn't looking to come up with a new alcoholic wonder, but kind of accidentally happened into it. I was looking for a drink that was refreshing, based on club soda, but had more flavour and excitement than the typical juice-and-club-soda drink that I'd normally try. While it is extremely good as it stands right now, I feel the need to test some vodka in it before I truly finalize the recipe.

salt or salve: one last kick, promise!

Boy, this has been an exciting exchange! I really do have to discipline myself to edit my postings after I write them. That's the problem with writing things down to figure out how you feel about them yourself. Of course, without my lack of editing we wouldn't be having this wonderful debate!

In any case, there were a few things in the last batch of comments that I wanted to respond to, after which I'll let the issue lie dormant for a while. My claim is still over a week away from even being submitted, and I have yet to hear back from my dad, John, or Bob on the situation. No point beating ourselves into a rabid froth for something that, at this stage, exists only in my head, right?

salt or salve: the follow-up

Well. I asked for opinions, and did I ever get them. The quantity didn't overwhelm me, but what was said (as of this writing) was... interesting. It leads me to believe that I was less than clear in my explanation of the situation, and even less so in laying out the choices that lay before me.

Thus, I'm going to see if I can't explain myself a little bit better, answer some of the points that were brought up, and make you all agree with me instead of my wife.

what to rub: salt or salve?

I haven't said anything about it until now, but the final details in the wake of having my contract terminated have yet to be nailed down. I got a legal opinion, and it certainly wasn't what I had hoped it would be. It did give me an option, but it was definitely a burn-the-bridge kind of option. Thus far, that course of action is underway.

Tonight, however, I realized that there is another course of action I could take that would not only NOT burn bridges, but mend the proverbial fence that's been pretty much wrecked with this whole nasty affair. I'm not sure exactly what to do, so I'm going to write about it, and see what falls out. Read on and share your opinion.

bye-bye spambox

I've had a Not From Toronto-specific e-mail address for a while now, and it's been spectacularily disappointing. Apart from regular readers, I received a total of three e-mails about Not From Toronto. After a while, the spambots picked up on the e-mail address (despite being as encrypted as I could make it in the HTML this site is made with) and have now become the most frequent - and only - source of e-mail at that address.

Thus, as you can see by the sidebar, I am formally announcing that said e-mail address is no longer in service. While this readers without any way of directly contacting me via e-mail, historically I know that this really isn't an issue. So long, nft at myrealbox.com... I hardly knew ye.

OK, so... um... yeah.

Hot damn! My days of contracting are over, I'm not just working but working for myself, my backers are not only happy to have be on board but are long-time family friends, and I'll get to do business with my dad to boot! Ain't life grand? Now, if I could only get some minor details worked out... like what I'm supposed to do tomorrow. Hmm...
